On Thursday morning in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara state, a mobile police sergeant fatally shot his alleged female acquaintance before shooting himself in the head in the schoolyard.
According to reports, the early-morning incident near the entrance to a private school in Agba Dam Housing Estate, Gaa Akanbi, Ilorin, was the consequence of a miscommunication between the policeman and his lover.
According to reports, the MOPOL sergeant was a staff member of the Ilorin-based Kwara state government house.
Tosin was the only name given to the deceased female companion and mother.
Okasanmi Ajayi, the police public relations officer for the Kwara State Command, responded to the news by confirming the occurrence in a statement.
He claimed that the fatal occurrence was the result of a love triangle and had "nothing to do with police violence" in the statement headlined "RE: KILLING OF A LADY AND SELF BY A POLICE SERGEANT IN ILORIN".
According to the statement, "On March 2, 2023, at approximately 8:05 a.m., word reached the command that a guy wearing a police uniform had been afterwards recognized as F/NO 497093 by his outfit and name tag. At the Chapel of Redemption Agba Dam housing community in Ilorin, Sergeant Olalere Michael "Male," later confirmed as belonging to the 15 PMF, shot and killed an unnamed woman before killing himself by shooting himself in the head.
The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Paul Odama, psc+, sent a team of police officers and detectives to the scene as soon as the information reached the command. The corpses were recovered and sent to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, where the bodies were pronounced dead.
The leadership wants it to be known that the fatal occurrence was the result of a love affair gone wrong and had nothing to do with police misconduct.
