#NigeriaElections2023: ICPC detains nine people for buying votes in Osun, Borno, and other states

 



On Saturday, nine people were detained by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offenses Commission for allegedly buying votes during the presidential and National Assembly elections in the states of Osun, Ondo, Borno, Akwa Ibom, and Sokoto.

According to the report, four suspects were detained in Osun, two in Sokoto, and one each in the states of Ondo, Akwa Ibom, and Borno.
According to the report, documents containing lists of the names, phone numbers, and bank account information of state election voters were discovered in the possession of the four suspects being held by the ICPC office in Osun State. Adewale Teslim, 32; Yemi Adebiyi, 42; Shake Idris, 36; and Emiola Joseph Oluwole, 69; are the four vote buyers detained in Osun State. At Polling Unit 07, Ward 07, Ile Aganna in the Olorunda Local Government Area of Osun State, Adewale Teslim gave a list of voter names and phone numbers to the commission's workers.
While Shake Idris was detained at Polling Unit 6, Ward 10, Ofatedo area of Osun State with a notebook containing more than 100 names and account numbers, the officers also found a list of voters with their phone numbers and account details from Yemi Adebiyi at Polling Unit 06, Ward 04 at Ikirun junction, Ikirun, the agency said in a statement on Saturday by its spokesperson, Mrs. Azuka Ogugua.

The ICPC's Ondo State office reportedly detained Mrs. Idowu-Yemi Omolere in connection with the distribution of recharge cards to voters at Polling Unit 12, Ward 12, behind Dada Estate Police Station. They also allegedly found 24 pieces of N500 recharge cards, a list of voters, their phone numbers, and a mobile phone.

It claimed that its Borno office detained Garba Bahausa in the Bulunkutu Ward while he was in possession of four PVCs and N49,000 in cash. The Akwa Ibom State office of the ICPC detained a woman, Mrs. Idara Umoren, for compiling the names and account information of voters suspected of casting ballots for her preferred candidate, according to the statement's additional information.

Umoren was taken was arrested at the Signature Hotel Polling Unit on Plot 48G Line in the Ewet Housing Estate in Akwa Ibom. Hassan Muhammad and Nafisa Sani were detained by ICPC agents in Sokoto State for allegedly buying votes in the Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto.
