Sunday Babaji, the commissioner of police assigned to the Kaduna State Command for election duty, has ordered strict enforcement of pedestrian and vehicular movement in the 23 local government areas of the state leading up to Saturday's presidential election.
Spokesman of the Command, DSP Muhammad Jalige, in a statement on Friday, said the restriction order which takes effect from midnight to lapse by 6:00pm on Saturday, will cover all the entering points into the state.
This came as the statement noted that no fewer than 16,000 people had been deployed to secure all polling places, allowing all eligible voters to exercise their right to vote without fear of intimidation from any source.
According to the statement, no large gatherings, political rallies, or campaigns of any kind will be tolerated during the designated restriction hours, and anyone found in violation of the said order will face consequences.
"The Command is therefore requesting that all law-abiding State residents abide by this restriction order, and all eligible voters are free to cast their ballots without fear of harassment from any source.
A Rapid Response Team has been placed in each Local Government Area to quickly respond to distress calls, and over sixteen thousand police officers have been deployed to secure all polling places and collation centers throughout the State.
"However, it is advised that while the election is still going on, members of the public should be aware of their surroundings for signs of security and report any suspicious behavior to the nearest security formation or by calling the Kaduna Police Command's designated emergency mobile phone numbers at 08075391105 and 07039675856 for prompt assistance.
"Therefore, the Commissioner of Police requests the public's understanding as to any inconvenience the restriction may cause."
