Aminu Tambuwal, the governor of Sokoto State, has requested a time extension so that more people can cast ballots.
He mentioned that some polling places had insufficient security measures, which led to security lapses.
Concern was also expressed about INEC staff and materials arriving late at some polling places.
In order to prevent eligible voters in the line from losing their right to vote, he urged the electoral body to extend the deadline.
Security personnel are overworked in some areas, he declared.
