Eighty businesses were damaged by a Wednesday morning fire mishap in Kano's Kurni Market.
In a statement on Wednesday, Saminu Abdullahi, the Kano State Fire Service's public relations officer, acknowledged the occurrence.
He claimed that at around 5:23 am, one Aliyu Alkasim called the service in an emergency regarding the fire tragedy.
”Today, Wednesday March 1, 2023, our control room received an emergency call at about 05:23 am from one Aliyu Alkasim. He reported an outbreak of fire at Kurmi Market, Kano Municipal Area”
According to Abdullahi, the agency dispatched its employees to the scene as soon as they received the information.
We sent out our troops from several fire stations throughout the metro area. The area impacted by the fire was around 160 X 100 feet when they arrived at the scene of the incident at around 05:27 am.
He claimed that because to the heroic efforts of their guys, the service was able to successfully save a number of stores in the market area without sustaining any damage or losing any lives.
The incident's cause, he claimed, is still being looked into.
He encouraged members of the public to avoid carelessly using naked fire throughout the market premises and to always turn off all electrical appliances and disconnect from the source when not in use.
