The 2023 Population and Housing Census, originally scheduled for March 29, has been postponed to May 2023.
Information and Culture Minister Rai Mohammed made the announcement Wednesday after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) chaired by President Mohammed Buhari at the parliament building in Abuja.
He said the decision to postpone was made necessary by last week's decision by the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) to postpone gubernatorial and lower house elections to March 18.
He also said the council has approved N2.8 billion to procure software used by the National Population Commission (NPC) to maintain the census.
