The head of the Nigerian Labor Parliament, Joe Ajaello, has ordered public sector workers in the country to go on strike starting next Wednesday.
He also directed affiliates that make up the Nigerian Labor Congress to stand by for picket exercises at all branches of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, across the country.
The directive follows an earlier ultimatum issued last week by members of his NLC's Central Working Committee that criticized the federal government's cash swap policy.
Ajaero said the decision to attack the CBN branch was necessary because the federal government and CBN showed no commitment to address the situation.
He said despite a Supreme Court order that old N500 and N1000 notes be put into circulation with new notes until December 31 this year, workers do not have access to cash to pay fares and their families She complained that the situation seemed to be getting worse because she could not buy groceries because of... The top union, which briefed reporters at NLC headquarters on Wednesday, also criticized price irregularities in the oil sector, which also raised concerns.
"Last week we issued an ultimatum to revisit the currency crisis plaguing the country, but unfortunately at this time much has not been done to improve the situation and the government found to be still reluctant to address the issue.
"Based on this, we met again this morning to review our position and have decided that all CBN chapters will picket by next Wednesday.
“Workers are also being told to stay at home because people can’t eat, workers can’t go to the office anymore, we are up against the wall and our destinies We have our destiny, the workers have been mobilized for this exercise,” said Ajaello.
