Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele has denied reports that a new conspiracy has been launched against President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
However, Emefiele explained in his reply that the message was fake.
The governor said in a statement to his acting director of corporate communications at CBN, Isa Abdulmumin:
“The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has become aware of an article published on Monday, March 13, 2023, claiming that the governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele has launched a “fresh plot against President-elect”.
“The story above continued until the governor claimed that he had offered a certain amount of money to the candidate in advance of the gubernatorial election on March 18, 2023. "Because the Governor of CBN knows nothing about Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour and has not met him in person or spoken to him through an agent, we would like to inform the public that this story is completely false and malicious.
“We would like to reiterate that the CBN president is not involved in politics, so we urge anyone who has information to the contrary to prove the president wrong by providing facts.
“As such, the governor of CBN and his team should be allowed to focus on their assigned role to carry out the bank’s statutory duties.”
