Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Olukayode Ariwoola did not meet Nigeria's president-elect Bola Tinubu in London, the Supreme Court said.
The Supreme Court's statement was in response to reports by his People's Gazette, his online platform, that CJN disguised himself in a wheelchair and met with the president-elect in London.
Supreme Court spokesman Festus Akande said in an interview with his Premium Times, another of his online outlets, that the report is untrue.
Contrary to reports' claims that Aliullah traveled to the UK from Nigeria on March 11 to meet the president-elect, Akande said: "
Akande revealed that CJN, accompanied by his NJC Director Gambo Saleh, made a brief trip from Nigeria to London on March 18 for a medical procedure.
“On 23 March, CJN returned to London from a medical trip and then reported to the office (in Abuja) where he was on duty until 8pm.
"The only time CJN traveled earlier this year was when he traveled to Saudi Arabia for the Little Mecca pilgrimage on January 25th. He will be back on January 29, 2023," a Supreme Court spokesman said.
The president-elect's presidential campaign team described the story as "purely obscene fiction intended to draw traffic to a discredited supplier."
Bayo Onanuga, a spokesman for the president-elect's media team, who issued a statement on Friday, said Tinub was still in Paris, France and had not moved to London.
"We strongly object that nowhere has a secret meeting been held between our country's president-elect and our eminent chief justice. This is purely fabricated news and It has no basis in fact and credibility," the statement said.
