Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the legal team for the Labor Party (LP) candidate for the March 18 Lagos gubernatorial election, said his client remains the party's true flag bearer in the state.
Rhodes-Vivour's lead attorney, Olagbade Benson, told journalists in Lagos on Monday that his three recent lawsuits against his client's candidacy have been dropped.
At the meeting, Benson, who chaired his two other lawyers, Uchechukwu Ani and Kemi Afesojaye, a former LP gubernatorial candidate and leader of Lagos, said he was the head of Prince Ifagbemi Awamaridi's, Rhodes Vivour. He pointed out that the claim that he had filed a substantive lawsuit against him was wrong.
Benson said the affidavit taken by Ahwamaridi as a true court position that he was recognized as a bona fide Labor candidate had been falsified.
He said the affidavit did not represent the judgment of the state court.
Benson said there were two rulings, including those of the Federal Higher Court and the Court of Appeals, supporting the candidacy of Rhodes Vivours as the party's honorary standard-bearer in Saturday's elections.
Attorney said his PDP case against Rhodes Vivor was dismissed as without merit by the Federal Court of Justice.
According to him, “Apart from Lhodes-Vivour and others who claim to have litigation in court over the LP candidacy, anyone who poses as a party candidate is misleading the public.”
He said that the purpose behind such claims by individuals was to fear Rhodes Vivour and believe that the best strategy was to mislead the public, especially voters, ahead of the March 18 elections.
“Our attention was drawn to an affidavit dated August 5, 2022. This is an affidavit stating that there will be no retreat and that he (Awamaridi)
has been sent to INEC stating that he has not yet relinquished his role as a Labor candidate."
has resigned." , he represented INEC and was sued by Rhodes Vivor.
"On December 8, the Federal Court of Justice handled this case and canceled it. Since it is an official document, anyone interested can apply.
“And on February 2, 2023, the Court of Appeals closed Awamaridi's case.
“Furthermore, the PDP filed a lawsuit against his candidacy and the matter was dismissed in federal court on December 8, 2022. The opposition did not pursue their demands after the FHC quashed it," Benson said. (Naan)
