Soludo commends Tinubu and pleads for Kanu's release.

The newly-elected governors and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, have been congratulated by Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra State.

While promising them that their opinions will continue to be important in the transition to a new Nigeria, Soludo also hailed the young people of Nigeria as the heroes of the national elections in 2023.

Although praising the Independent National Electoral Commission, the governor made it clear that in order to move closer to a more ideal system, the nation must continue to strengthen and reform its electoral systems and public engagement in politics.

These were revealed in a statement that the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria personally signed on Tuesday.

He added that instability in the Southeast should worry everyone but the election. He therefore asked Tinub to release Biafra's indigenous leader, Nnamdi Kanu, as soon as he took office. For me, the real heroes of the last election were the citizens of Nigeria, especially the young, and their voices continue to be critical as we work together to build a new Nigeria. I'm sure you are.

I also congratulate you on the election of the next President, Asiwaju Bora Ahmed Tinub. Congratulate your closest opponent for a brave and impressive performance.

“Nigeria needs healing and rebuilding, and the underlying challenges of instability and economy remain enormous.

He urged anyone feeling grief over the election to follow due process of going to court and take appropriate steps to regain their authority.

“On this point, I can repeat my previous appeals and ask the president-elect to release Maji Nnamdi Kanu as soon as he is sworn in (that is, if he is not released immediately). As a key stakeholder in the debate about healing and sustainable peace in the Southeast, we need to bring him to the table. We believe that sustainable peace and security are enhanced through broader non-dynamic engagement with all key stakeholders," the statement added.
