The University of Benin has been named 2023 African University of Excellence in Rwanda.
The university's Chancellor, Professor Lillian Salami, was also recognized as a pillar of African education that has influenced educational development on the African continent.
Benedikta Ehanile was presented with the award at the 1st African Education Summit held at the University of Rwanda in Kigali, according to a statement from an agency spokesperson.
Along with her leadership role on the Board of Vice Chancellors of the Federal University of Nigeria, Professor Ehanile said: Salami also served as Vice President of the Association of African Universities based in Ghana.
The position was used by the Vice Chancellor to plan and promote the achievements of a number of African universities, including the University of Benin, according to a spokeswoman.
