Organ trafficking: Obasanjo petitions Britain, asks leniency for Ekweremadu (letter below)

 

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called for clemency for former Deputy Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who was convicted of organ trafficking in the UK.
Ekweremadu, his wife Beatrice and his doctor, Dr. Obinna Obeta, after his six-week trial at Old Bailey for facilitating a young man's trip to Britain for purposes of his exploits. Convicted.

A jury found that on 23 March 2023 he criminally conspired to bring a 21-year-old Lagos street vendor to London to exploit his kidney.


Ahead of the trio's sentencing, Obasanjo wrote in a letter from the General Secretary of the Central Criminal Court of the Old Bailey, London, dated 3 April 2023, that Sonia's urgent medical need was addressed in the United Kingdom. should be compelled to soften justice with mercy.
