EFCC Seizes New Notes Totaling N32.4 Million "Meant For Vote-Buying In Lagos"

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has seized N32.4 million in fresh notes that they believe were used in Lagos to buy votes.

The anti-graft organization said in a tweet on Friday that authorities had also detained a suspect and were questioning him.

The interception in Lagos of the amount of N32,400,000 allegedly suspected to be used for vote buying in Lagos may have signaled the beginning of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's (EFCC) massive operation to prevent vote trading and other financial malfeasance ahead of tomorrow's presidential and national assembly elections.

Operatives from the Commission's Lagos Zonal Command made the recovery. The suspect in question has been detained for additional questioning.

Abdulrasheed Bawa, the chairman of the EFCC, urged members of the anti-corruption organization assigned to the task of election monitoring to act courageously. Bawa also urged them to avoid creating conditions that would allow dishonest individuals to compromise the integrity of the elections by offering financial inducements.

All of the federation's states and the FCT currently have tactical teams of operatives on the ground. Social media users have already shared phone hotlines for the public to contact Commission representatives with information about financial misconduct. According to the statement, the EFCC financial crimes reporting app, Eagle Eye, which is available for download on the Google Play or Apple store, is encouraged to be used by members of the public to report anyone attempting to buy or sell votes.
