'He's a good man,' Mrs Ekweremadu defends husband in organ harvesting trial

Mrs Beatrice Ekweremadu testified on Tuesday at the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales, also known as the Old Bailey in London, in the organ harvesting trial against her and her husband, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

The couple has been accused along with Dr. Obinna Obeta arranges an illegal kidney transplant for her ailing daughter Sonia, 25.

They allegedly conspired to transport her 21-year-old street vendor from Lagos to London to harvest his organ.

As the trial entered its seventh week, Ms. Ekweremadu tearfully defended the former Senate vice president, saying, "My husband is a good man and I have learned to trust him."

Plaintiff sought to find out how much information the 56-year-old accountant had about the alleged victim.

But Mrs Ekweremadu said she was ignorant about many issues in her household, and as a powerful politician and woman with a lawyer husband, she refrained from questioning him, she told the court. Told. The victim said he had no idea he was being taken to the UK to have his organs harvested, adding that he only learned about organ donation when he visited a private doctor at the Royal Free Hospital.

British police are trying to locate the senator's brother, Diwe Ekweremadu, who is believed to be in Nigeria and who is said to have acted as an intermediary for Ekweremadu's.

A fourth suspect is her 51-year-old attending physician, Dr. Obinna Obeta, who was a classmate of the senator's brother and is said to have acted as a middleman.

It was reported that Ekweremadu's traveled to the UK with his Obeta and a suspected victim from whom his organs were harvested.

When he tried to convince medical personnel to perform a private operation at the Royal Free Hospital at a cost of £80,000, he was misrepresented as Sonia's cousin. It was also alleged that the donor was to be paid financially for the kidney, which would have made the transplant illegal.

Ekweremadu testified before a jury on Monday. Our children are the most important gift that God has given us and we cherish them very much.

"Let's paint him one of the things we do as a family.

When my first son was studying law at the University of Lancashire, he complained about his one of the modules and my husband tutored him all day and guided him through the course.

“What I teach my children is that family, each of us, is the only thing we have. not. "If something happens to any of us, any of our brothers, no one rests until it's resolved."

The mother of her four children, who worked full-time in the office of the Nigerian Accounting Firm, told jurors that her husband handled the household finances according to Nigerian customs.

Her husband had about 80 employees, including drivers and maids, but "he prefers to eat my food," so she cooked for him at home.

She explained how her daughter fell ill after returning home for Christmas 2019.

"Sonia's leg started to swell and she looked like she was going to pop like a balloon," she said, according to a Daily Mail report.

The court heard that initially, her daughter was instructed to put her legs up at a clinic and told it might be related to travel. The jury was informed that the family changed their plans, and Sonia returned to London to see a doctor at the Cromwell Hospital and then the Royal Free.
