The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) needed to be modified, according to the commission, in preparation for the upcoming election.
In order to allow Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) to inspect the materials used for the 2016 presidential election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has petitioned the Presidential Election Petition Court to change the earlier orders.
The electoral body requested a court modification of the injunction prohibiting it from interfering with election-related materials in a motion on notice submitted on March 4.The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) needed to be modified, according to the commission, in preparation for the upcoming election. Obi and Atiku had requested access to all the sensitive materials INEC had used for the conduct of the presidential election held on February 25. On February 3, the Court of Appeal Abuja had granted their request. The applicants pleaded with the court to order INEC to let them get the records that were kept there and used for the presidential election. They insisted that the requested papers would support their petition challenging the All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Tinubu's victory in the presidential election.
Furthermore keep in mind that out of the 17 candidates who ran for president, Tinubu was proclaimed the winner by INEC. According to INEC, Tinubu received a total of 8,794,726 votes, beating out Atiku, who received 6,984,520 votes, and Obi, who received 6,101,533 votes to finish third.
