The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately order compliance with the terms of the March 3, 2023 Supreme Court Order on Naira Reconstruction Policy.
The NBA's position was included in a statement from its president, Maikya Yakubu (SAN).
The association praised the Supreme Court's ruling, which considered the negative impact of the naira reform policy on the people.
He argued that the needless pain and discomfort experienced by Nigerians was due to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) implementing policies with little regard for the interests and feelings of its citizens.
Micaw said:
"I welcome the Supreme Court's decision on this matter, as it expresses not only the court's responsibility to the people, but also its obligation to protect the rule of law and the integrity of the court. “The Supreme Court has demonstrated through this ruling that it is the highest court of the Nigerian people.
"The Supreme Court has issued instructions to the federal government in the interest of the people, and it must comply.
"The president has a constitutional duty to follow and enforce decisions of the Supreme Court.
“Nigerian people may not be very enthusiastic about our judicial system and this may have stemmed from unsubstantiated and false allegations of judicial misconduct, but it is important to protect people and protect them in public. Ensure integrity.
“The Supreme Court has spoken on behalf of the people of this country and has issued executive orders accordingly. Court orders must be followed. "We cannot accept or condone dictatorships or the appearance of dictatorships under any pretense or pretenses.
"Our democratic system of government will remain here. It must not only be respected by all, but jealously guarded and protected.
"This is the greatest test or challenge to our constitutional democracy, and the executive branch cannot afford to ignore Supreme Court orders that favor those who elected them to power.
“Therefore, on behalf of all Nigerians, I call on the President to order immediate compliance with the terms of the Supreme Court's order in the judgment of March 3, 2023.”
NBA President said:
Politics that do not correctly calculate the law as it should be,
The results are mostly uninformative.
"The way CBN has acted with little regard for the obvious suffering of the people
As seen across the country, questions began to arise about the real motives behind cash reform policies. “Nigerians do not have to die, nor will their wealth be lost through the implementation of the naira conversion policy if properly implemented.
Unfortunately that was our experience. Nigerian man dies
Property destroyed and lost. Hunger is occurring in many households.
Using their hard-earned money deposited in banks for the apparent arbitrariness of policy.
Rural economies were stifled. Only one out of every ten hectares of rice fields have been cultivated in most of the North-western states, as economic activity has decreased and many dry-season farmers have been unable to cultivate their farmlands.
"Food security is in danger because rural farmers' ability to carry out farming activities has been hampered by the financial crisis.
Simply put, it doesn't seem like the policy is being implemented with a human face.
