SPORTS: Lukaku scores hit-track as Ibrahimovic returns

Romelu Lukaku scored a hat-trick as Belgium beat Sweden in Euro 2024 qualifiers and edged out Zlatan Ibrahimovic to return to the national team.

After scoring the opening goal in the first half with a header, Lukaku conceded from close range and slid into the goal in the second half.

The 41-year-old Ibrahimovic came off in the 73rd minute and received a standing ovation from the Swedish fans.

It was the first overseas appearance in almost a year.

Ibrahimović, 41 years, 5 months and 21 years old, was initially hailed as the oldest player in his Euro qualifiers since 1983, as the Italian goalkeeper he broke the record set by Dinozov. But Gibraltar striker Lee Caxiaro, who is four days older than Ibrahimovic, set a record for his side in a 3-0 defeat to Greece in Group B on Friday.

Last weekend, Ibrahimovic became the oldest player to score a goal in Serie A history when the AC Milan striker scored his penalty against Udinese.

Ibrahimovic says he wants to compete at Euro 2024 next year in Germany at the age of 42.

Lukaku's first treble since 2021 gave Domenico Tedesco a perfect start as Belgium coach.
