The family of a 22-year-old former student of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta and Kabirat Sobola, who were allegedly stabbed to death in the Ogun state capital, are seeking justice.
The deceased, a national diplomat, was reportedly killed in his room in Abeokuta on Friday, February 4, 2023.
It turns out that the incident caused grief to the whole family as the police launched an investigation into the murder.
One family member, who identified herself simply as Sobora, accused the police of not doing enough in the matter.
She said her family's position sees no reason to prosecute the deceased friend, who is currently in custody in the case. Sobola said:
"Your phone was missing. Police ignored these parts without mentioning them in the report.
"After she was reported missing for several days, her boyfriend went to her police station on Friday March 3 and filed a complaint.
“Her friend met him at the counter and said he was looking for her girlfriend, according to the DPO. The DPO suspected him within 24 hours.
"When I asked him (her friend) when he last saw her, he said he was still talking to her around 10am on Friday, police said it was around 1pm, he reported the incident.
"So he the DPO arrested him. Everyone tried to call her, but her phone wasn't available, so her parents got a call the next day too. ”
Sobora said they all went to the girl's house and she arrived there. They encountered her locked room while police pursuers indicated the girl's phone was inside.
"When they opened the door, they saw the key on the floor, and when they went inside, they found the girl's body lying on the bed with a knife next to her.
"She had a deep cut on her neck and the phone was missing from her left breast. Police didn't even bother to look for it.
"From what you've learned about the man, you have nothing to claim from him. They didn't talk on the phone or with knives or anything like that.
"The man is currently being held in Oba Prison and another trial is scheduled for April 27.
"We want justice for the girl. Justice must be done."
State Police spokesman SP Abibbola Oyeyemi confirmed the incident.
But Oyemi said the case was passed on to the special forces homicide unit.
He said, "What happened was that the boy came to the Ibara Police Station and reported that he had not been able to find his girlfriend at home for two days. Ibara's DPO asked if he was the girl's parent. I asked him how, he said no, and DSB asked him how he knew she couldn't be found. The DPO then told him to restrain him until the girl's parents came to the station. Her parents have the right to report her daughter missing.
“They arrested him and went to get the parents of the girl who had arrived. went to the apartment where the girl died in her room.
"After an investigation, it was found that it was the boy who killed the girl. They supposedly had fought before, so the boy went to the girl's house and killed her, and the police arrested him. The case was moved to murder."
